Nestled in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, WillaKenzie Estate reflects the vision of founder Bernard Lacroute. Inspired by Burgundy's rolling hills, he established the winery in 1991, naming it after the land's marine sedimentary soil – a testament to the belief in terroir-driven wines. As Oregon's first LIVE certified winery, sustainability remains a core value, ensuring the land's biodiversity thrives.
"Terres Basses," French for "low lands," aptly describes this unique vineyard within the Estate. Its lower elevation and clay-rich Hazelair soil create an environment for early-ripening grapes with thick skins. This translates into a powerful, richly colored Pinot Noir, a stark contrast to the rest of the Estate's offerings.
NOTES FROM VINOVOSS SOMMELIER
This WillaKenzie Estate Terres Basses Pinot Noir is a beautifully crafted Pinot Noir with aromas of raspberry, cherry, and cassis on the nose.On the palate, the wine has a medium body, with flavors of blackberry, dark cherry, and a hint of spice. The finish is smooth and long, with a touch of oak and earthiness. Enjoy this elegant, complex, and balanced Pinot Noir now or cellar for up to five years.
Oregon is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States, located between Washington to the north and California to the south. It is known for its diverse landscape of forests, mountains, rivers, and high desert, and for its vibrant wine industry.
Oregon's wine industry dates back to the mid-1800s, when the first vineyards were planted in the Willamette Valley. The region was largely forgotten until the 1960s, when a group of pioneering winemakers began to experiment with Pinot Noir and other cool-climate varieties. Since then, Oregon has become one of the most important wine regions in the United States, with over 500 wineries and more than 1,000 vineyards.
