Wine Description:
Visconti Brunello di Montalcino is a red wine from the famous Brunello di Montalino appellation of southern Tuscany. The winery is located in the south-east of the appellation near the Abbery of Sanit Antimo. The warm climate brings about a high degree of ripness in the local clone of the Sangiovese grape. The thick skins yield a deep color and a higher level of tannins making for a more structured style of wine than that found in the neighbouring Chianti. The wine shows notes of black cherry and dried herbs with bold tannins and lean acidity. This is a good introduction to the style of Brunello but lacks the concentration and firmer structure of the finest examples.
Pros:
  • The rich concentration of Cherry fruit and dried herbs

Cons:
  • This wine is not as concentrated and structured as other Burnello wines

Wine Expert Note:

Visconti Brunello di Montalcino is a prestigious Italian red wine that hails from the Montalcino region in Tuscany. This wine is made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes, which are known for their ability to produce complex and age-worthy wines. On the nose, it offers an enticing bouquet of ripe red fruits such as cherries and plums, accompanied by floral notes of violets and dried herbs. There is also a subtle presence of oak, contributing to the wine's overall complexity. On the palate, Visconti Brunello di Montalcino showcases a harmonious balance between its fruit, acidity, and tannins. The flavors of red berries and cherries persist, accompanied by hints of tobacco, leather, and earthy undertones. This wine is known for its full-bodied nature, with a long and elegant finish that lingers on the palate. Visconti Brunello di Montalcino is a wine that benefits from aging, and it is recommended to cellar it for at least five to ten years to fully appreciate its potential. With time, the tannins soften, and the wine develops additional layers of complexity, showcasing tertiary aromas of dried fruits, spices, and truffle. Overall, Visconti Brunello di Montalcino is a wine that exemplifies the best qualities of Sangiovese grapes and the Montalcino terroir. It is a wine that can be enjoyed on its own or paired with hearty dishes such as roasted meats, game, or aged cheeses.
