Umberto Cesari Ca'Grande Sangiovese Superiore

This Superiore is one of three single-varietal Sangiovese di Romagna interpretations by Umberto Cesari, showcasing that Sangiovese thrives not only in the Chianti region but also in the terroir of Romagna. The grape was first documented in Romagna in 1651. Sangiovese is the most widely planted grape variety in Italy, with its name reportedly derived from "sangue di Giove" (blood of Jupiter). Its potential ranges from simple table wines to premium selections, with a diverse array of aromas from fruit and spice to violets. The grapes are harvested from 15-year-old vineyards in Ca' Grande, with yields of 9500 kg per hectare. The soil has a medium-loose texture with clay content. The grapes undergo careful harvesting and are vinified in vertical stainless-steel fermenters with temperature control, with a 14-day maceration period, followed by 6 months of maturation in stainless steel tanks.
