Founded in September 1999, Two Hands was born from a moment of inspiration at a friend's engagement party by founders Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz. Their mission: to craft exceptional Shiraz-based wines that showcased the diverse terroirs of Australia's prized growing regions. Breaking away from the multi-region labels dominating the market, Two Hands focused on highlighting regional and vineyard nuances, allowing the fruit to shine. Beginning with a modest investment and 17 tonnes of fruit in 2000, Two Hands quickly gained acclaim with support from Michael's connections in the US and UK. Their success paved the way for expansions like the Garden Series and iconic locations such as Kraehe House in the Barossa Valley, blending heritage with modern hospitality through the Cellar Door and Bakehouse, welcoming all to experience wines like Flagship Shiraz Ares.

Victoria's wine industry began due to the discovery of gold in the 1850s, leading to a influx of settlers from Europe, who brought vines and know-how from home. By 1890, Victoria was producing half of all the wine in Australia, but the spread of phylloxera in the late 19th Century and a number of wider issues, caused a decline.
