Scholium Project's 1MN Bechtold Ranch is an extraordinary 100% Cinsault wine sourced from the historic Bechtold Ranch vineyard, planted in 1870 with ungrafted vines in the deep, sandy loam soil deposited by the Mokelumne River in the west side of Lodi. Unlike the surrounding heavy clay loam, Bechtold's Sierra sand imparts a unique balance. These vines, never replanted due to their health, grow on their own roots. The winemaking process is elegantly straightforward: the fruit is gently introduced into vertical 600-liter puncheons, undergoes an extended floating cap fermentation called the Courier Protocol, and is aged for about a year in neutral oak barrels. Typically bottled with minimal sulfur, this wine showcases the pure essence of the historic Bechtold Ranch terroir.
NOTES FROM VINOVOSS SOMMELIER
