Santa Julia Viognier is an aromatic, texturtal white wine with notes of stone fruits produced by Bodega Santa Julia, a winery owned by the Zuccardi family, located in the Mendoza region of Argentina. The grapes used to make this wine are grown in the Santa Rosa and Maipu vineyards, which lower lying and benefit from ample sunlight to ripen fruit. The winemaking process involves gentle pressing of the grapes and fermentation in stainless steel tanks, resulting in a fresh and vibrant wine with aromas of tropical fruits, peach, and apricot. The wine has a medium body and a soft acidity, making it a perfect match for richer dishes like parfait.
NOTES FROM VINOVOSS SOMMELIER
Aromas of white nectarines, apricot, and honeycomb are complemented by a hint of jasmine blossom and a balanced, soft acidity. The palate is rich and round, with a creamy texture that leads to a lingering finish. Santa Julia Viognier is a delicious and well-crafted white wine that is sure to please. It is not the most intense, nor nuanced, expression of Viognier but offers great value at the price.
Mendoza is the largest wine-producing region in Argentina, located in the foothills of the Andes Mountains. It is known for its high-altitude vineyards, producing some of the country's most renowned wines. With a long history of winemaking, Mendoza is now one of the most important wine regions in South America. The territory of Mendoza can be divided into five large sub-regions, which give the varieties their particular characteristics: Valle de Uco GI, integrated by the departments of Tunuyán, Tupungato and San Carlos; Primera Zona, which includes the departments of Luján de Cuyo and Maipú; the Northern oasis (Lavalle and Las Heras), the East (San Martín, Rivadavia, Junín, Santa Rosa and La Paz) and the South (San Rafael, Malargüe and General Alvear), covering practically the entire provincial geography.
Mendoza has been producing wine since the 16th century, when Spanish settlers first brought vines to the region. Since then, the region has become a major producer of both red and white wines, with a focus on Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Torrontés. In recent years, Mendoza has become a leader in sustainable winemaking, with many producers focusing on organic and biodynamic practices.
