Podere Ciona, a boutique winery in the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany, is situated in high-altitude vineyards near Gaiole in Chianti. The estate produces a small range of wines typical of the region, focusing on quality with very low yields—about one bottle per vine. Grapes are hand-harvested and sorted berry-by-berry before fermentation. The wine ferments in stainless steel and French oak vats, and ages in various French oak barrels. The resulting wine, predominantly Sangiovese with Merlot, offers a bouquet of red berry fruit, savory herbs, and red licorice spice. On the palate, it is smooth with juicy red berry flavors complemented by notes of earth and light spice.
