With a long history of winemaking, Pennsylvania is now emerging as a major player in the US wine scene. Pennsylvania has a long history of winemaking, dating back to the early 1700s when the first vineyards were planted by German and Swiss settlers. The state was once home to over 200 wineries, but by the early 20th century, the industry had all but disappeared. In the late 1970s, the industry began to revive, and today there are over 200 wineries in the state.
