Wine Description:
Paydirt Going For Broke is a blockbuster red wine from the Paso Robles appellation of California. The wine is made from blend of grapes that will vary from vintage to vintage. Zinfandel is always at the heart of the wine. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, and Petite Sirah all play supporting roles. The warm and dry climate of Paso Robles yields exceptionally ripe fruit which the winemaker attempts to preserve. Total vatting time is kept modestly low to avoid harsh tannins and the wine spends 12 months in neutral oak to avoid any concealment of the flavors from the grapes. The result is a wine that is bursting with jammy black fruit and spice. This is a full bodied style with a plush, velvety texture with enough acidity for it not to seem cloying on the finish. This is a good choice for anyone who enjoys hedonistic styles of wine or for occasional wne drinkers who usually drink strongly flavored drinks like Bourbon.
Pros:
  • Concentrated style with intense flavors of baked black fruits and spice

Wine Expert Note:

The opaque purple color of Paydirt's Going For Broke hints at the concentration that can be found in the glass. The nose is intense with notes of fig and blackberry jam. The palate is equally bold with notes of baking spices. This wine is very full bodied, which is accentuated by the velvety tannins and supple acidity. Memories of blackberry pie filling linger on the long finish. Serve with brisket or slow cooked meats. Drink within 5 years.
