WINE DESCRIPTION
Otaviano Penedo Borges Icono Malbec is sourced from the winery's best lots in the sub-region of Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza. The grapes come from the Agrelo vineyard, located at high elevation. Here, the grapes enjoy exposure to higher levels of UV light and greater day-night temperature variations, resulting in grapes with thicker skins and higher levels of acidity. The grapes are harvested, destemmed, partly crushed and undergo a cold maceration for a short period. The temperature-controlled fermentation ensues, followed by aging for around 18-24 months in new French and American oak barrels. The wine is bottled and aged for around another 12 months before its release.

On the palate, the Icono Malbec reveals a full-bodied and velvety texture, with well-integrated tannins that provide a smooth and luxurious mouthfeel. The flavors of dark fruits persist, complemented by notes of chocolate, coffee, and a touch of smokiness. The wine displays a remarkable balance between fruitiness and acidity, leading to a very persistent and satisfying finish.

Mendoza is the largest wine-producing region in Argentina, located in the foothills of the Andes Mountains. It is known for its high-altitude vineyards, producing some of the country's most renowned wines. With a long history of winemaking, Mendoza is now one of the most important wine regions in South America.
