WINE DESCRIPTION
Winemaker Dirk van der Niepoort dubs it the "little brother" of his Vintage Ports. Why? Because it shares its origin with grapes from the same areas within the estate in the Cima Corgo region, Vale de Mendiz. These over seventy-year-old vines yield limited fruit with highly expressive aromas. The winemaking process mirrors that of its counterpart. Grapes are meticulously handpicked, then traditionally foot-trodden in Lagares. The wine matures in large wooden barrels known as "balseiros" in Gaia. Niepoort bottles their LBV four to six years after harvest, resulting in a truly exceptional wine with a character all its own.

Niepoort Late Bottled Vintage Port is made from a single vintage and aged in oak barrels for an extended period, resulting in a wine of exceptional quality and complexity.On the nose, this port offers a captivating bouquet of ripe black fruits, such as blackberries and black cherries, accompanied by nuances of dark chocolate, tobacco, and a touch of spice. These aromas intertwine harmoniously, creating an enticing olfactory experience.
Upon tasting, Niepoort Late Bottled Vintage Port reveals its full-bodied nature and velvety texture. The wine's rich fruit flavors dominate the palate, with notes of blackcurrants, plums, and figs taking center stage. The sweetness is well-balanced, providing a luscious mouthfeel without being cloying. Tannins are present but refined, adding structure and a pleasant grip to the wine.

Region: Douro
The Douro Valley in Portugal is one of the oldest and most iconic wine regions in the world. Located in the north of the country, the region is renowned for its stunning scenery and its production of world-class fortified wines.
The Douro Valley was first demarcated in 1756 and originally applied only to port production. It was extended to include table wine in 1979, with the first glimmer of the region’s potential for non-fortified still red wines appearing when port shippers Casa Ferreirinha launched Barca Velha in 1952.
