Neyers Evangelho Vineyard Carignan is a premium wine produced by Neyers Vineyards, a renowned winery in California. The grapes are sourced from the historic Evangelho Vineyard, which is known for its sandy soil and old vines that produce low yields of intensely flavored fruit. The winemaking process involves minimal intervention, allowing the natural flavors and aromas of the grapes to shine through. Carignan used to be the most widely planted grape variety in France during the 1990s due to its ability to provide large yields.It is also capable of making wines that are a joy to drink, if the yields are kept in check and the grapes give enough sun. It seems to have found a new home in Contra Costa County. Following an inky colour in the glass comes a ripe expression of dried cranberry and pomegranate. The palate is medium bodied with the firm tannins and lean acidity providing blance to the ripe fruit expression. The finish is long and has notes of insence and sage. This is a great match for slow cooked food and conversation. Drink within 8 years.
