WINE DESCRIPTION
Mas Amiel Oiseau Rare is a dry, red wine made by fortified specialists Mas Amiel. Made from close to century old vines surrounding the village of Maury in Roussillon. The wine is made of mainly Grenache grapes with a small proportion of Carignan grapes to provide additional structure. The winemaking is minimalist, with the juice fermented and matured in concrete vats, in order to highlight the quality of the fruit. Expect a full bodied wine with a broad and silky moutfeel and expression of very ripe balck cherry with a schist-like minerality. This is a great choice for lovers of Californian Zinfandel looking for a change or for drinkers of Pinot Noir who are seeking a wine with more opulence.

Mas Amiel Oiseau Rare is a still red wine from a producer who is better known for making fortified wines.Much in the way that the makers of Port in the Douro have discovered the potential of the climate of the making still wine, the producers of Maury have been experimenting with the production of still wine in the face of declining interest in fortified wines. Expect an inky ruby colour and intense notes of jammy cherry fruit on the nose. The palate is full bodied and mouth-coating with velvety tannins and balanced acidity. The finish is long with notes of cinnamon and schist-like minerality. The juicy nature of the ripe fruit makes it a great match for burgers with onion jam.
