WINE DESCRIPTION
Martinez Gassiot Vintage Port represents the pinnacle of fortified winemaking in the Douro Valley of Portugal, an area with a storied history in Port production. This Vintage Port, produced only in years when the quality of the grapes is deemed exceptional, is a showcase of the winery's dedication to excellence. The grapes, sourced from prime vineyards, benefit from the region's unique terroir characterized by steep terraces and a challenging yet rewarding climate. Martinez Gassiot employs traditional winemaking methods, including foot-treading in lagares and aging in barrels, to extract deep flavors and colors. The result is a Port that not only embodies the rich heritage of the Douro but also offers a complex and memorable tasting experience.
NOTES FROM VINOVOSS SOMMELIER
Martinez Gassiot Vintage Port mesmerizes with its deep, inky purple color, hinting at its concentrated nature. The nose is a lavish array of ripe dark fruits like blackberry and plum, complemented by layers of chocolate, spice, and a subtle floral undertone. On the palate, it is full-bodied and rich, offering a symphony of black fruit flavors, intermingled with notes of licorice, dark chocolate, and a touch of pepper. The texture is velvety, with well-integrated tannins and a robust structure, leading to a long, indulgent finish. This Vintage Port is a true celebration of the Douro's winemaking prowess, perfect for savoring on special occasions or aging gracefully in the cellar.

ORIGINS
Winery: Martinez Gassiot
Region: Douro
The Douro Valley in Portugal is one of the oldest and most iconic wine regions in the world. Located in the north of the country, the region is renowned for its stunning scenery and its production of world-class fortified wines.
The Douro Valley was first demarcated in 1756 and originally applied only to port production. It was extended to include table wine in 1979, with the first glimmer of the region’s potential for non-fortified still red wines appearing when port shippers Casa Ferreirinha launched Barca Velha in 1952. The focus on table wines did not take hold until the 1990’s, following Portugal’s accession to the EU.CUSTOMER RATING
