Wine Description:
This Markus Altenburger Ried Satz is made from Blaufränkisch grapes sourced from the various plots around the village of Jois, mainly from the younger vines. This wine is designed to express the joyful, approachable side of Blaufränkisch. The grapes are harvested, crushed and fermented in inert vessels at cooler temperatures with a focus on lighter extraction to create softer, fruit-forward wines that are highly varietally-expressive. The wine is matured for a short period in inert vessel prior to release to harmonise the flavors.

Wine Expert Note:

This Markus Altenburger Blaufränkisch Ried Satz is a lively, fruit-forward red with a nose that offers bright aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry, and dried herbs, along with a hint of smoky minerality. On the palate, the wine has a medium body, with a core acidity that provides freshness and balance. The tannins are not overly assertive but help support the ripe, bountiful fruit flavors of blackberries, damson and spice. Whilst the finish is not overly long, it is pleasant and expressive with an invigorating burst of acidity.

The wine is made from the Blaufränkisch grape variety, which is known for its deep color and complex flavors. The vineyards where the grapes are grown are located on the slopes of the Leithaberg Mountains, which provide ideal conditions for the grapes to ripen slowly and develop their full flavor potential. The winemaking process involves careful selection of the grapes, gentle pressing, and aging on lees to add complexity and depth to the wine. The resulting wine is a medium-bodied, richly flavored red with notes of dark fruit, spice, and a hint of smokiness.
