The history of Cuatro Rayas winery in the Spanish appellation of Rueda dates back to 1935. For the past 30 years, this history has been closely intertwined with the name Angel Calleja. In the mid-1970s, Angel Calleja completed his winemaking studies at the University of Madrid and took over the responsibility for the winery's technical processes in the same year. Over the years, Angel became one of Spain's most prominent oenologists, and Cuatro Rayas grew alongside him. Today, the winery is one of the largest producers in the region. Predominantly, you'll find the white grape variety Verdejo in the vineyards located in the Duero River Valley, situated at altitudes between 700 to 850 meters. The climate includes cold winters, a short spring, hot summers, significant temperature fluctuations within a 24-hour period, and nutrient-poor soils rich in sand and stones. These conditions create optimal conditions for winemaking, and Angel Calleja and his team excel in harnessing their full potential.
