Viña Otano Graciano is a red wine from the Rioja appellation in Spain, which highlights the rare Graciano grape. Viña Otano is based in Rioja Alta and was a family owned winery that has grown to become a member of the Premium Fincas group. Graciano is a red grape, which is grown in small amounts, despite its high quality potential, because it is more prone to disease and lower yielding than Tempranillo or Grenache. The fruit is sourced from vines of around 50 years of age providing concentyrated flavors and the wines is a Reserva, aged for two years in French oak, and one year in bottle before release. Expect dark plum fruit with lifted floral aromatics, vanillin toast and fine grained tannins. This is less typical of Rioja due to the sole use of Graciano but a great wine and a treat for any drinker who enjoys trying varietal examples of unique grapes.
