WINE DESCRIPTION
The Jayer Gilles Nuits-Saint-Georges 'Les Hauts Poirets' is a premier cru Burgundy Pinot Noir crafted from a small, steep vineyard at the southern end of Nuits-Saint-Georges. Nestled on a hilltop above an old quarry, the vineyard enjoys a sunny south/southeast exposure and has limestone-rich soil. The vines, organically cultivated and averaging 70 years in age, produce grapes that are hand-harvested and carefully sorted, afterwards fermentation takes place with a portion of whole clusters for extra complexity and better texture. The wine spends 18-24 months in barrels, with ca. 30% in new oak. With a limited production of about 900 bottles annually, this wine is a true expression of its exceptional terroir.
