WINE DESCRIPTION
Esk Valley Red Blend was blended from grapes grown within the Hawke's Bay in the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District. These deep stony soils have excellent drainage and low vigour, ideal for the production of high-quality red wine. The vineyards are close planted and yields per vine are kept low to maximise quality. Individual vineyard and varietal parcels are destemmed to concrete and stainless steel fermenters and allowed to ferment with wild yeast. Once active the ferments are hand plunged or gently pumped over to extract tannin and colour from the skins. After a period of maceration on skins the new wines are pressed to barrel and tank for malolactic fermentation and subsequent ageing resulting in a densely coloured wine with notes of dried herbs, black cherry, blackberry with subtle hints of cedar.

Esk Valley Red Blend has a nose of ripe red fruits, such as black cherries and cassis, accompanied by subtle hints of spice and oak.The palate reveals a well-balanced structure with smooth, fine-grained and well-integrated tannins and a medium body. The flavors of black fruits continue to shine, with notes of blackberries and plums combined with floral aromas of violet and crushed mint adding depth and complexity. The wine's acidity provides a refreshing and lively character, while the oak aging contributes a touch of vanilla and spice.
