This Dönnhoff S wine is a made the Grauburgunder grape variety, also known as Pinot Gris or Pinot Grigio. The old vines are planted on sloping sites in the middle Nahe region. The grapes are hand harvested and sorted before being pressed, fermented to completion and matured for around 6-9 months on the lees (decomposing yeast) in new large barrels made of German oak. The result is an unusual but intriguing, dry Grauburgunder with notes of oak spice and a rich texture.
