Wine Expert Note:

This Champagne from Christophe Mignon is a delightful expression of the Brut Nature style. It showcases a pale golden color with fine and persistent bubbles. On the nose, it offers a complex bouquet of citrus fruits, green apples, and brioche, accompanied by subtle floral notes. The palate is crisp and refreshing, with a lively acidity that balances the richness of flavors. Flavors of lemon zest, pear, and toasted almonds are complemented by a mineral undertone, adding depth and complexity to the wine. The finish is long and elegant, leaving a lingering impression of freshness and finesse. Overall, this Champagne is a superb example of a Brut Nature, displaying purity, precision, and a true reflection of its terroir. It pairs wonderfully with seafood, particularly oysters, and can be enjoyed on its own as an aperitif.

Louis Roederer Collection 242 Champagne is a relatively new cuvee for Champagne house Louis Roederer being released in 2021 to replace the NV Brut Premier. This wine is the result of climate change. In the past, the growers of Champagne used to worry about the grapes not being ripe enough. Today, the worry is about the grapes becoming overripe. To solve this issue, Roederer created a solera that would become the base wine for this cuvee. Each year wine is withdrawn from the solera. The solera is refilled with the most acidic wines from that year. The solera is never emptied and always contains small amounts of each wine added to it, making the wine more complex. Collection 242 is the first commercial release of this Cuvee when the Solera was 10 years old. Next year's release will be numbered 243 and so on. The wine still has Roederers hallmark toasty oak opulence but a fresher backbone. A must for lovers of oaked Champagne or those interested in solutions to climate change.
