La Chapelle de Bages is the second wine of Château Haut-Bages Libéral, a fifth Growth property in the 1855 Classification of the Medoc, located in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux, France. The grapes come from younger vines on the estate and from vineyards located further inland, away from the river. The winemaking is focused on careful blending to achieve a style that while still worthy of cellaring is more approachable in youth with a less foreboding structure. The wine shows impressive complexity having been aged for a minimum of 12 months in French oak barrels, a moderate proportion of which were new. The provenance of the fruit and the technical winemaking result in highly enjoyable wine that is a reference point for the region and a charming glass of wine in its own right.
