Chateau Grand Traverse Gamay Noir comes from the Old Mission Peninsula AVA of Michigan. Gamay Noir grapes are harvested prior to being fermented in inert vessels and undergoing maturation in oak barrels for a few months to enhance the wine's texture and depth.

Michigan is a state in the Great Lakes region of the United States, located in the north-central part of the country. Michigan has a long history of winemaking, with the first vineyards planted in the early 1800s, but plantings are currently on the rise.
The first vineyards in Michigan were planted in the early 1800s by French settlers. The state's wine industry grew steadily until Prohibition in the 1920s, when it was almost completely wiped out. After Prohibition, the industry slowly began to rebuild, and by the 1970s, there were over 100 wineries in the state.
