WINE DESCRIPTION
C. da Silva Presidential Vintage Porto is a sweet, age-worthy, fortified wine crafted in the Douro Valley. The wine is a blend of native varieties including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão, and Tinta Barroca. After harvesting, the grapes are crushed with a focus on rapid and heavy extraction to create a tannic, deeply colored wine. After a short period, aguardente, a characterful grape spirit is added to mute the fermentation, increasing the alcohol level to around 20%abv and leaving residual sweetness. The wine is aged in large oak barrels for around 2 years prior to bottling.

The Douro Valley in Portugal is one of the oldest and most iconic wine regions in the world. Located in the north of the country, the region is renowned for its stunning scenery and its production of world-class fortified wines.
The Douro Valley was first demarcated in 1756 and originally applied only to port production. It was extended to include table wine in 1979, with the first glimmer of the region’s potential for non-fortified still red wines appearing when port shippers Casa Ferreirinha launched Barca Velha in 1952.
