WINE DESCRIPTION
Maruxa Mencía is a red wine made by the Virgen del Galir winery in the DO Valdeorras, in Galicia (Spain) with the Mencía variety. The Virgen del Galir winery is a young project located in the heart of Valdeorras, at the foot of the Camino de Santiago. It has 20 extraordinary microplots located more than 600 meters above sea level and on slate and granite soils. Since 2018 it has been owned by CVNE. Maruxa Mencía comes from recovered vineyards located on terraces and slopes, in the Sil Valley. Centennial vines that are planted in clay loam and slate soils. Traditional agriculture is practiced and the harvest is manual in 15 kg boxes. In the winery, Maruxa Mencía macerates in a refrigerator and in tank for 48 hours beforehand. The grapes are destemmed and gently pressed and the must obtained is fermented with native yeast. Named in honor of the mother of the founder of the winery, Maruxa Mencía is a young, fresh and broad red that faithfully reveals the essence of Valdeorras.
