WINE DESCRIPTION
This Volnay 1er Cru 'Caillerets' is crafted by François of Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur. Hailing from the Volnay appellation in Burgundy, this wine is crafted from grapes grown in the renowned 'Caillerets' vineyard. The vineyard gains its name from the Gallic word 'stone' (caillou), an apt name given the predominance of stones that characterize the soils. Grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed. During the maturation process, François is never heavy-handed with the use of oak, instead using barrels to enhance and frame his wines, without masking their sense of place.

Bitouzet-Prieur Volnay 1er Cru 'Caillerets' has an attractive ruby color.Finely detailed red fruits, such as ripe cherries, wild strawberries and raspberries slowly reveal themselves. These aromas are complemented by delicate floral notes, including violets and rose petals. There is also a subtle hint of earthiness, which adds complexity to the wine. Upon tasting, this Volnay premier cru reveals a silky texture and a firm core of acidity that lifts the wine and brings the red fruit flavors into focus. On the finish, the wine reveals yet more layers, with a touch of spice and truffle, leaving an impression of elegance and sophistication.
