Apaltagua Envero Carmenère Gran Reserva is a red wine made from approximately 90% Carmenère and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown in the Apalta subregion of the Colchagua Valley in Chile. The wine is produced by Apaltagua, a family-owned winery that specializes in Carmenère and works with organic and biodynamic growers. The vineyards are old, located on a gentle slope with limestone gravel and clay soils. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged for approximately a year in American and French oak barrels. The wine has a deep red-violet color and aromas of blackberries, tobacco and spices. It is full-bodied and concentrated, with ripe fruit notes, vanilla, soft tannins and a touch of tobacco on the palate. It has a long and lingering finish. This wine pairs well with beef dishes, such as steak, roast or stew.
