Antonio Madeira's "Burgundian approach with the terroir of the Dão" is showcased beautifully in this Serra da Estrela subregion gem.Harvested from two incredibly old vineyards, farmed organically with biodynamic practices, this wine offers a delightful field-blend experience. One vineyard, with 60-year-old Baga-dominant vines, and the other featuring a mix of Tinta Amarela, Jaén, and around 20 other varieties, all nurtured on pink granite soils at 500 meters above sea level. Grapes are gently hand-harvested and undergo a minimalist extraction in lagar using indigenous yeasts. After malolactic fermentation in used French barrels, it matures for 18 months in a combination of used French and Austrian oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, with minimal SO2, the result is an elegant, floral, and red-fruit-driven wine, enveloped in silky tannins, accompanied by intriguing herbal notes. Antonio Madeira A Palheira is a truly stunning wine, epitomizing the uniqueness and excellence of the Dão terroir.
