Wine Expert Note:

The Alban Vineyards Patrina Estate Syrah introduces itself with a deep, inky color, hinting at the richness within. On the nose, one is immediately greeted by an opulent bouquet of dark fruits — blackberries, plums, and cherries — complemented by nuances of smoked meat, black pepper, and hints of violets. As you take a sip, the palate is caressed by a full-bodied wine with a velvety texture, where the ripe fruit flavors dance harmoniously with notes of chocolate, licorice, and a touch of earthy minerality. The wine possesses a sturdy backbone of tannins, yet they remain refined, framing the wine perfectly. With its lengthy and flavorful finish, this Syrah resonates with the signature intensity and elegance of Alban Vineyards. Ideal for pairing with grilled meats or hearty stews, this wine showcases the potential and beauty of Californian Syrah.

In their sixth vintage, they continue to craft wine from the Kahn Vineyard. Situated on the southernmost tip of the Mayacamas range, dividing Napa and Sonoma Valley, this hillside vineyard boasts a mix of volcanic and valley floor soils, resulting in exceptional complexity. Managed with certified organic practices, the vineyard benefits from cool nights and warm days, achieving a harmonious balance between ripeness and acidity. A unique approach was adopted, employing 100% whole cluster and gentle pump overs instead of the customary punch downs. Harvested at 24 Brix, the wine aged for 18 months in neutral oak barrels, followed by another 18 months of bottle aging. The result is a wine characterized by meaty minerality, bright tannins, a full fruit mid-palate, and a lingering finish.
