Pernambuco, while not a major wine region in Brazil, does have some interesting viticulture in its hinterlands. The São Francisco Valley in Pernambuco has a hot, semi-arid climate that is surprisingly well-suited for growing grapes. This region is notable for being able to produce two harvests of grapes each year, due to the long growing season.

The São Francisco Valley's sunshine favors drought-resistant grapes like Sangiovese and Syrah. Pernambuco's wineries produce surprising styles, with bold reds, crisp whites, and even sparkling wines finding their place on the table.
