Lake Skadar
Nestled around the scenic Lake Skadar in southern Montenegro, vineyards bask in the sun-drenched valleys, contributing to the established Crmnica wine region. This area, famed for its natural beauty, is gaining increasing recognition for its exciting contribution to Montenegrin wines. The Crmnica region boasts a long history of viticulture and is known for producing unique red wines, particularly those made from the Vranac grape variety.
The primary grape variety grown in the Lake Skadar region is Vranac, an indigenous red grape that produces full-bodied, high-tannin wines with flavors of dark fruits and spices. Other varieties grown in the region include Kratošija (another indigenous red variety), Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay. The wines produced in the region are primarily red, with some white and rosé wines also made.

Lake Skadar is home to over 270 species of birds, making it one of the largest bird reserves in Europe. Many wine tourists combine their visits to the wineries with birdwatching and other outdoor activities in the beautiful natural surroundings of the lake.
