Ahr is Germany's most northerly premium red wine region, located in the Rhineland-Palatinate region of the country. It is known for its steep, terraced vineyards and its red wines made from the Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) grape. Ahr has a long history of winemaking, with evidence of vineyards dating back to the Roman Empire. The region was officially recognized as a wine-producing area in the late 19th century, and it has since become one of Germany's most important wine regions.

Ahr is best known for its red wines, which are made from the Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) grape. Other red grapes grown in the region include Dornfelder, Portugieser, and Frühburgunder. White wines are also produced, made from Riesling, Grauburgunder and Müller-Thurgau grapes.
