Vaccarèse
Vaccarèse, also known as Brun Argenté or Camarèse, is a rare red grape variety native to the Rhône Valley, particularly in Vaucluse. It is primarily grown in the southern crus of the Côtes du Rhône and is a permitted variety in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Côtes du Rhône Villages wines. Although it is rarely vinified alone, Vaccarèse is valued for its ability to refine blends by adding aromatic finesse and balance to Grenache-dominant wines.
Vaccarèse wines are moderately colored and offer a structured tannic profile, similar to Syrah. They display fine floral and fruity aromas, with an elegant freshness. The wines are typically balanced, with a rustic yet refined character, contributing complexity and freshness when blended.
Vaccarèse is found in the southern Rhône Valley, particularly in appellations such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Beaumes de Venise, and Vinsobres. It is a productive yet rustic variety that thrives in various soil types, though deep soils should be avoided. The vine is sensitive to powdery mildew and botrytis, requiring careful vineyard management.
Vaccarèse is one of the rarest Rhône Valley grapes, covering only 0.
01% of the vineyard surface. Its distinctive floral aromas make it a valuable blending component, adding finesse and freshness to robust Grenache-based wines.
