Ranna Melnishka

Ranna Melnishka, or Ranna Melnishka Loza, also known as Melnik 55 or Early Melnik, is a Bulgarian red grape variety. It is a cross between Shiroka Melnishka Loza and Valdiguié, created in the 1960s but only recently recognized. Grown primarily in the Struma Valley in southern Bulgaria, it is known for producing rich, juicy wines with vibrant color and good aging potential. The variety is cold-resistant and has become popular in blends and varietals.

COLOR, AROMAS & TASTE PROFILE

Ranna Melnishka Loza wines typically display aromas of red and black fruits, with hints of spices and tobacco. The wines are ruby red, medium to full-bodied, with smooth tannins and a bright acidity. They often have flavors of sour cherries and spice notes.

REGIONAL FEATURES

This variety is primarily grown in the Struma Valley in southern Bulgaria, with around 254 hectares planted. It is resistant to cold and produces wines with good aging potential, often used in blends and varietals.

INTERESTING FACT

Although Ranna Melnishka Loza has been recognized as a distinct variety, it is often confused with Shiroka Melnishka Loza, and both are commonly referred to as 'Melnik.
