Niagara is a white hybrid grape variety, originally developed in North America.
Niagara grapes have a light greenish-yellow skin. The wines made by Niagara usually have a foxy and floral flavour, and with low acidity.
Niagara is grown in the US, particularly in New York and Michigan, as well as in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Iowa. It is also found in eastern Canada and Brazil, and in Japan. Niagara is best grown in cooler climates. It is mid to late ripening and moderately hardy. Niagara wines pair well with shellfish and lighter fish dishes and salads.
Niagara grapes are often used to make ice wine, which is a sweet dessert wine made from grapes that have been allowed to freeze on the vine.
