Ner D'Ala is a red grape variety grown in the Aosta Valley, particularly in the municipalities of Arnad and Montjovet. It is a vigorous, late-ripening variety with a long history, known for producing garnet-red wines. While now cultivated in limited quantities, it is used primarily in blends to contribute color and intensity. In pure form, it produces wines with a spicy aroma, dry taste, and good structure.

Ner D'Ala wines are garnet-red with an intense, vinous, slightly spicy aroma. The palate is dry, soft, with good structure and moderate alcohol content.

REGIONAL FEATURES

Ner D'Ala is mainly grown in the Lower Valley of Aosta, particularly in Arnad and Montjovet. It has historical significance in both the Aosta Valley and Piedmont, where it is also known as Vernassa and other regional synonyms. The grape is cultivated in small quantities and is often blended with other local varieties, particularly Nebbiolo for Carema.

Ner D'Ala was thought to have originated in the Aosta Valley but may actually have its roots in Piedmont, where it is known as Vernassa.

It has also been recognized in Switzerland as an Old Growth grape variety.
