Moll
Moll, also known as Prensal Blanc, is a light-skinned grape variety native to the Spanish island of Mallorca. It is the island’s most prominent white grape alongside Moscatel and plays a key role in the wines of DO Binissalem Mallorca and DO Pla i Llevant. Known for its productivity and adaptability, Moll is used to produce light, refreshing white wines that are best enjoyed young.
Moll wines are typically pale yellow with greenish reflections. They are crisp and easy-drinking, with balanced acidity and delicate aromas of green apple. While not particularly aromatic, well-made examples can exhibit subtle floral hints and a slightly astringent almond-tinged finish. The variety is also suitable for sparkling wine production, often blended with Moscatel, Macabeo, and Parellada.
Moll is widely cultivated across Mallorca, particularly in the DO Binissalem Mallorca and DO Pla i Llevant regions. The warm Mediterranean climate and limestone-rich soils of the island provide optimal conditions for this variety, allowing it to maintain freshness while producing wines with moderate alcohol. Due to its naturally lower acidity, it is often blended with more aromatic or structured varieties to enhance complexity.
Despite being Mallorca’s dominant white grape, Moll is relatively unknown outside the island.
Its ability to produce refreshing, easy-drinking wines makes it an essential part of Mallorca’s modern winemaking identity.
