Megrabuir

Megrabuir

Megrabuir is a red grape variety originating from Armenia, created through the hybridization of C 484 (Madeleine Angevine x Chasselas Musque) and C 128 (Ichkimar x Yanvarskii x Chernyi). It was crossed in 1960 by breeder S. A. Pogosyan. The variety is known for its extreme frost resistance, capable of withstanding temperatures as low as -28°C. Megrabuir produces light red wines, often used in sweet dessert wine production.

COLOR, AROMAS & TASTE PROFILE

Megrabuir wines are typically light red with a focus on sweetness. Specific aroma and flavor details are limited due to its use primarily in dessert wines.

REGIONAL FEATURES

Megrabuir is mainly cultivated in the West Armenian region of Armavir, where its frost resistance makes it suitable for colder climates.

INTERESTING FACT

Megrabuir is an interspecific crossing with a strong genetic link to both Vitis amurensis and Vitis vinifera, contributing to its remarkable resilience to cold temperatures.
