Kösetevek
Kösetevek is a red grape variety from Elazığ in Eastern Turkey, recently reinvigorated by Kuzeybağ Şarapçılık. The grape was originally mixed with the more popular Öküzgözü due to its similar appearance. Once identified, Kuzeybağ worked with Vine Projects to produce the first 100% Kösetevek wine. The variety is grown in the organic vineyards of Koruk Köyü, on stony clay/loam, limestone soils at around 1000 meters elevation.
Kösetevek wines have not been extensively studied yet, but as the grape continues to emerge, expect a wine with balanced tannins, bright fruit notes, and a structured profile.
Kösetevek is cultivated in Eastern Anatolia, specifically in Elazığ, where it has long been overshadowed by Öküzgözü. The vines are typically 30 years old and grow in high-altitude, limestone-rich soils.
The Kösetevek variety was unknowingly blended with Öküzgözü for years due to its similar appearance, only being identified and highlighted as a unique grape in recent years by Kuzeybağ Şarapçılık.
