Kok Pandas
Kok Pandas is a white grape variety originating from Ukraine, specifically cultivated in the Sudak region of Crimea, particularly in the Solnechnaya Dolina (Sun Valley) area. The grape's parentage is unknown, and it is also known by several synonyms, including Coc Pandas, Kok Pandasse, Pandas Kok, Tken Izume, Tken Izyum, and Tkens Isium. This medium-maturing vine is moderately resistant to fungal diseases and is primarily used for blending in dry to sweet wines, as well as fortified wines.
Kok Pandas wines are typically full-bodied with a rich mouthfeel. The variety is known for producing wines with good structure and complexity, which makes it suitable for both dry and sweet styles, as well as fortified wines. The aromas and flavors are generally not well-documented, but the wines are characterized by a round, smooth texture with balanced acidity.
Kok Pandas is primarily grown in the Sudak region of Crimea, in the Solnechnaya Dolina area. This variety thrives in the unique climatic conditions of the region, contributing to the production of full-bodied wines that are often used in blends. Due to its limited cultivation, Kok Pandas is considered a rare variety, with no significant stocks reported in recent years.
Despite being used in the production of both dry and sweet wines, as well as fortified styles, Kok Pandas remains a very obscure variety with limited presence outside its native region.
Its unique character makes it an interesting option for blending, but it has not seen widespread adoption outside of Crimea.
