Chouchillon

Chouchillon

Chouchillon is an ancient grape variety once widely known in the Chagnon region (Loire), but now nearly extinct in vineyards. It is currently being replanted and is listed in the official catalogue of vine varieties. Chouchillon is related to Mondeuse Blanche and is not widely known outside of the Loire region or internationally.

COLOR, AROMAS & TASTE PROFILE

Chouchillon wines are pale yellow with greenish hues. The wine is rich in acidity and of good quality, often exhibiting aromas of citrus fruits, exotic fruits, and floral notes.

REGIONAL FEATURES

Once cultivated in the Côtes de Chagnon, Chouchillon was often blended with other varieties. It is now undergoing a revival, and some clones are approved for planting.

INTERESTING FACT

Chouchillon is sometimes referred to as 'faux Viognier' due to its similar characteristics, though it is distinct from the more famous Viognier variety.
